A Return to the Hospital

Monday Nov 11. 4:30 am
Elijah developed a cough early yesterday morning.  Probably something a sibling shared with him as we have had a lot of coughing this past week at the house.  Throughout the day his breathing got harder for him.  We headed to the ER following 3 snow plows as winter arrived today in Alaska.  He has been admitted with respiratory distress, possibly pneumonia.  Sweet baby is on oxygen, antibiotics, and fluids in an iv. Steroids may be next to help open his airways.  The doctor said, "Unless he has a miraculous recovery, he will be here a few days."  Well, we have seen several of those before.  :)

10:30 am
Upper right lobe pneumonia is the diagnosis.  Finally got a very slow feed running so hopefully he can catch up on his sleep.  Maybe I can, too.  But probably not.  I would rather sit and hold this precious child from God.

6:30 pm
Elijah is finally sleeping.  His feed will continue very slow until tomorrow.  He really misses eating, as he was taking about an ounce by mouth 5 times daily.  When we arrived at the ER they put him on 2 liters flow oxygen.  He is down to .3, maybe he will be off of it tomorrow.  It's nice seeing some familiar faces from NICU caring for him now in pediatrics.
Taste and see that the Lord is good.

Tuesday Nov 12. 2:00 pm
Sweet baby is sounding better today.  His breathing treatments are every 4 hours and he is still on .3 oxygen.  His feed was increased from 10 ml/hr to 20.  It must get to 40.  We love seeing familiar friendly faces that took care of us in NICU.  This medical facility and personnel have been a great blessing.

Wednesday Nov 13. 5:00 pm
Elijah is doing much better!  Thank you for your prayers.  His feeds are up to 30 ml/hr and his oxygen at .1.  Tried to take him off oxygen this morning but he still needed some.  His breathing treatments are just 'as needed' and he sounds great. We play in the afternoon  while he coos and smiles.  Still some coughing when he is tired, but so much better.
Praise God for healing!

Thursday Nov 14. 6:00 pm
Sweet baby loves the mobile the nurse put above his crib.  He looks and smiles and coos. So incredibly sweet!  The only thing keeping him in the hospital is his oxygen requirement. They try taking him off every few hours, but is is not ready.  I tried talking them into letting him go home with oxygen, so he could travel to the Bible Bee to see his sister compete, then see family, but they aren't going for that plan.  He won't be able to fly for a few months. And though there are tears of disappointment, we smile and coo and thank God for His provisions.  And we pray for those going on without us.

Friday  Nov 15. 7:00 pm '
I.V. is out and he finally had a bath!  It was time.  The antibiotics are causing a sore bum, so sweet baby enjoyed relaxing in the water.  I asked for probiotics and they started today.  All that is left is getting off oxygen.  He goes between .1 and .2  Hopefully soon!
And they sing the song of Moses the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, Great and marvellous are thy works, Lord God Almighty; just and true are thy ways, thou King of saints.

Saturday Nov 16  5:00 pm
We are just waiting for sweet baby to come off oxygen.  The doc today said that after 5 days, they may talk about going home with oxygen.
I will wait upon the Lord.

Sunday Nov 17  9:00 pm
Yep, we are still here.  Waiting.  Oxygen requirements the same.  Elijah had a fun bath today and got  mommy all wet.  We cuddled and played and prayed for those traveling.  Oh how we miss them!
Death is dead, love has won, Christ has conquered;
And we shall reign with Him, For He lives: Christ is risen from the dead!

Monday Nov 18  6:30 pm
Elijah stayed off oxygen for a couple hours today.  Well, he was off it longer than that as he has become quite the expert at getting the cannula off his face.  I had no idea when we first arrived at the hospital that we would be here this long.  I thought "a breathing treatment, maybe cough medicine, and we should be home by morning."  Ha!  Today we were the only ones in our wing, so they moved us to a more populous localeAnd, they started feeding mommy!
Indescribable, uncontainable, You placed the stars in the sky and You know them by name.
You are amazing God.

All powerful, untameable, Awestruck we fall to our knees as we humbly proclaim
You are amazing God!

Tuesday Nov 19  7:00 pm
Sweet baby has been off of oxygen all day.  If only he can stay off overnight...
Blessed be the name of the Lord!

Wednesday Nov 20  1:30 am
Sweet baby is now 'Mr. Happy preparing for the Midnight Olympics Track and Field events'. So glad he feels better and is staying off the oxygen!  Who knew one could exercise so much in the middle of the night and be so jubilant?
Let everything that has breath praise the Lord!

Thursday Nov 21  4:3 pm
Home again, home again.  Jiggety jig.
